Hi, I'm Rachel, founder of Equilibrium Pilates.

I first discovered Pilates in my 20s and immediately connected with how it made me feel—stronger, more grounded, and more aware of how my body moved. It quickly became one of the practices I kept returning to alongside an active life spent running, hiking, skiing, biking, paddling, and exploring the outdoors.

My original plan was always to study and teach Pilates once I had more time after staying home with my kids. That path ultimately came into sharper focus as my own relationship with movement evolved.

At 38, I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Navigating chronic pain, rehabilitation, and eventually hip reconstruction surgery reshaped my understanding of what it means to move well. It wasn’t the beginning of my Pilates journey—it was a deepening of it. My practice became both a tool for recovery and a lens for understanding how the body adapts, compensates, and rebuilds strength.

Through this experience, I became even more committed to studying movement in depth. I learned that lasting strength isn’t simply about doing more—it’s about moving with awareness, control, stability, and an understanding of how the body functions as a connected system.

That perspective became the foundation of Equilibrium Pilates.

My teaching combines contemporary Pilates with principles of functional movement, joint stability, alignment, and whole-body coordination. I focus on helping clients understand not just how to move, but why movement works the way it does. This includes learning how muscles coordinate, how patterns develop, and how small adjustments can create meaningful changes in efficiency and comfort.

Whether you are recovering from injury, looking to support an active lifestyle, or wanting to move with more confidence in everyday life, my goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized instruction that meets you where you are.

Living in Southeast Alaska continues to shape my approach. The balance found in nature—the tides, the terrain, the changing seasons—mirrors what I see in the body: adaptable, responsive, and capable of strength through balance.

Equilibrium Pilates is a reflection of that idea: a system of controlled movement expressed through body, environment, and breath.

I look forward to helping you move well, feel strong, and stay connected to the activities you love for years to come.
